Simmertones
The Simmertones are a 9 piece ska and reggae band (including a 4 piece horn section) who play a mixture of original material and covers of classics by Prince Buster, The Skatalites, Bob Marley, etc. Think of a mix of The Specials, Marley, Madness and maybe Paolo Ntini and you’ll have a good idea of the sound.
The band’s debut album “Presenting The Simmertones, Volume 1” was released in late 2009 and picked up great reviews in local and national press and magazines and on the internet too. Head over to iTunes or Amazon and search for "Simmertones" to hear samples.
The album has picked up a load of local airplay on Palm FM, BBC Radio Devon, Exeter FM, and Radio Plymouth as well as around the world in Germany, Canada, France, Australia, Ireland and the USA. You might have also heard the band on Radio 1 and 2 - Mark Lamarr has played the band a few times on his Friday night God's Jukebox programme on Radio 2 as has Mike Davis on his Monday night punk & ska show on Radio 1. Alex Lester featured the band on his Radio 2 morning show alongside the new album by Slash!
